Arise and Shine Haven is a nonprofit organization founded in 2005 that serves homeless women and children, including homeless female veterans and women reentering society after time in prison.
We believe that when women thrive, families and communities also thrive. Many individuals enter our program with no hope, no goals and no aspirations – barely hanging on. Our mission is to empower our clients to attain clarity about the direction of their lives, to dream big, and to make those dreams come true.
Previously, Arise and Shine provided transitional housing for more than a dozen families in Los Angeles through partnerships with the Department of Corrections STOP program, the Homeless Outreach Project HOPICS, the Department of Children’s Services, the Los Angeles Service Homeless Authority, the West Los Angeles Christian Center, the Veterans Administration Medical Center, the Beyond Shelter Housing First Program and the United American Indian Involvement Center.
In addition to housing, Arise and Shine offered family and individual counseling, treatment planning, sobriety support groups, employment assistance, child custody guidance and Section 8 voucher assistance.
Currently, the organization seeks to develop a village for seniors and disabled veterans in the farming country of northern Louisiana. (See “FARM!” to learn more.)
